This post is in collaboration with Silver and Gold Clothing.
I have quite a few black dresses. I love the ease of them – how I can slip one on when I’m running late and somehow still look put together and timeless.
Today I’m partnering again with my friend Kaitlin at Silver and Gold Clothing to share just some of the ways you can style one of my favorite black dresses, the Silver and Gold Classic Dress. I love the high-low hem, and the free silhouette makes this dress a blank slate for any style you could want to achieve.
Before I hop into this styling post, I’d like to give a special thanks to my friend and fellow content creator Alexandra. She is the woman behind the photos in some of my best performing posts – she has a background in fashion photography and it is always such a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with her. I knew she was the right person to capture the beauty of this piece, and I hope it shows in this post!
Look 1: Heavy Metal
The Silver and Gold Clothing Classic Dress is made in Canada of 100% organic Tencel and has a shape that works dressed up or down. I brought it with me to Madrid and it looked absolutely beautiful belted with heels for one of our work dinners. But as you can see, it looks just as great with a studded moto boot (I get so many questions about these; they were gifted by a friend of mine who lives in Germany! You can find them here, but they only ship within the E.U. They are conventional fashion, as well. I’ll let you know if I find a great alternative, but I’d maybe just go for some vegan Dr. Martens?).
Because this dress is 100% Tencel, it is machine washable and simple to steam or iron, which makes it an easy addition to my wardrobe. I’ve even thrown it in the dryer (by accident, but…) and it looks great!
Throw on a denim jacket (this is the one I have) to complete the effortlessly undone look.
Look 2: Office, Elegant
I know that office wear is always something blog readers are looking for. Lately it seems like offices are getting more casual, and more and more bloggers work from home on occasion and share mostly casual outfits – myself included, unless I have a specific meeting or event to attend. So, I also wanted to show you how this dress works beautifully in a formal work environment, for those of you who have stricter office dress codes and are looking for minimalist and sustainable outfit ideas.
Oh – you mean like this, right? 🙂
I’ve styled the Classic Dress here with black pumps, this chic and sustainably-made cream vest by Verde Moscù – purchased at Rughara when I was in Madrid – and my favorite vegan leather bag, the von Holzhausen shopper.
No longline vest? No problem.
Look 3: Hello, Autumn.
A belt, blazer (secondhand, similar here), and cognac ankle boots takes it to the office, too! Whereas the above outfit is more business formal, this is more of a business-casual fall look.
I am having too much fun writing this post with this whole “but wait, there’s more!” attitude, for the record. And there is more!
Look 4: A Little Hipster…
One way that I’m always inclined to style my outfits is for a “friend date.” That means coffee, or visiting a local winery, or brunch, or whatever else we might get just a touch dressed up for. And yes, this dress takes you there, too.
Lose the blazer, add a scarf and hat (secondhand, similar here).
Look 5: Editorial Neutrals
For my last look, I styled this dress as a skirt by wearing a sweater over it and securing it with a belt, creating a faux waistline. I think this works well for both the office or for a fall evening, because it has a very editorial vibe. A turtleneck works best for recreating this outfit, because it effectively conceals the neckline on the dress.
I’m wearing a secondhand turtleneck (similar here), belt, my von Holzhausen shopper and some mules.
I had so much fun styling this dress 5 ways, and it’s so versatile that I probably could have shown you another 5! I’d love to know – what’s your favorite item in your closet to restyle, and – which of these looks was your favorite?
You can shop the Silver and Gold Classic Dress here.
This is my first multi-way styling post, so please do let me know if you enjoyed it and found it useful! xx

Kellie, you knocked it out of the park!
I think my favorite is the last look – I love the trick of turning a dress into a skirt (especially for travel!).

Thank you Krystal! I think that might be my favorite one, too! xx
