I had no idea what to call this blog post, because it is pretty much just me wanting to share an outfit that I really, really like.
Not sponcon, not styling anything multiple ways, not anything besides that I love these pieces and, when I happened to be shooting photos with Alexandra, I said, “Hey, if we have time, maybe we can shoot this one other outfit?”
It’s not something I get the opportunity to do a lot with a professional photographer, as I usually save those sessions for collaborations with my brand partners. For my daily outfits, my husband helps me with photos or I just take them myself!
But sometimes, it’s fun to also do the really good stuff for my editorial content. I know that’s what I’d like to see as a reader, but it just isn’t financially feasible for me to professionally shoot things that aren’t sponsored. But this time – it worked out!
I recently purchased the Universal Standard vegan leather camisole, and it is cool. I know, vegan leather is plastic. But I don’t wear (new) leather and that’s the right choice for me, and I like that I can still look really badass!
I wanted to add this camisole to my wardrobe because I noticed that, in recent weeks, I felt like I didn’t have anything to wear for an evening out. My clothing tends to be pretty casual, and when I was recently getting ready for an event, I was like – wow. I don’t have anything that ticks the boxes on the level of sophistication that I need in an outfit right now.
So, when Universal Standard hit me with that promotional email for their new vegan leather items, it was the right time! I was torn between the camisole and the slip dress, but decided the camisole was more practical because it is more easily dressed up and down. I could probably wear this to work with a blazer over it, but a vegan leather slip dress, not so much. And I don’t really go out enough to own such a dress, if I think about it.
The one thing that’s weird about having a vegan leather camisole is that you don’t wash it, obviously. You just sort of wipe it down or air it out. And since it doesn’t breathe that much, I definitely have to be mindful of when and where I wear it.
Universal Standard’s sizing runs a bit differently than other brands, so make sure you consult the size chart when you shop with them. I fall smack in-between their 4XS and 3XS (I wear a 0 or 2, but never a 00 or 4), and went with the smaller size in this because I was worried about the neckline being too low. I’m pretty short, only 5’3″, and the model on their site was 5’9″ and wearing the size 4XS.
I paired it with a slip skirt I bought on Etsy. It initially got lost in the mail and I was so upset, but it recently turned up! This is a good example of how try as I might, I am not immune to trends and I totally wanted to rock a slip skirt/ sweater combination this fall, like literally everyone else on the planet. So, that’s probably coming soon too – haha!
My shoes are older fast-fashion, but I like them because they are vegan leather, as well. My bag is old, from Rag & Bone. And, I accessorized with some minimal gold jewelry. I am really into these chunky hoop earrings lately!
So that’s it. It’s a short post, but I wanted to share this look with you because it was so fun to put together something edgier than I usually wear.
xx
