This outfit is admittedly trendy in its styling, but is comprised of classic pieces – so it’s the best of both worlds! I think people feel that a small (or smaller) closet means boring, redundant outfits, but there are a lot of ways to style classic items in ways that feel of-the-moment.
Unexpected pairings like t-shirts and sneakers with a slip skirt, bandeau tops under blazers or monochrome outfits are all very “in” right now, but don’t require investing in items that will ever truly be “out” of style. I firmly believe there is a difference between something no longer being trendy and something being out of style or dated. While slip skirts are very trendy right now and that will definitely fade, they are still a timeless item.
My tee is from Mate, my skirt is from Etsy and my sneakers are Allbirds. I love shopping on Etsy for clothes, because there are a lot of reasonably priced items that support small businesses. I’m currently eyeing these minimalist tees, as well as this lounge set.
I’m feeling really good about having set some closet intentions in April, and feel like I’ve largely stuck to the style essence I outlined then (I made a few adjustments to the below). It only took me about thirty minutes to put this collage together, but in having that intentional time and browsing Pinterest, I was able to more clearly define the items I want to wear rather than being influenced by what I see on Instagram during any given week. It’s a really worthwhile exercise, and I think my recent purchases and styling reflect a more curated vision with an edited color scheme and polished silhouettes. Now I just have to perfect the cool-girl posing for my photos.
I looked mostly for style and accessory photos, but also looked up colors I like – besides neutrals, I love dreamy blues and pinks – and put together the images that inspired me! I want to spend some more time and put a larger collage together to continue to refine my style, but this has served as a tremendously helpful guide for me in the meantime.
Curious if you enjoy these shorter outfit posts? I always wondered if individual outfits were too small to blog about so tried to round them up, but I’d love to know if you enjoy this format.
