Happy New Year, everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday, despite having to spend it at home or with fewer loved ones than hoped.
I’m back to work today and am feeling optimistic about 2021. With last year being so challenging, I failed at basically every wardrobe intention I set for myself, but I decided to let those go and set some new ones, which I shared on Instagram. Oh – I changed my Instagram username as well, and you can now find me directly at my name. I felt like it might help us connect on a more personal level, and since I don’t only share clothing content, but also clean beauty, lifestyle and a bit about my life on Instagram, it felt like the right move.
One of the goals I’ve set for myself this year is to make a return to capsule wardrobing. It’s something I loved doing when I first started blogging, and I think revisiting it will motivate me to get dressed even though I’m working from home. Capsule wardrobing also never fails to inspire me to be more creative with my outfits! Plus, when I asked you all on Instagram what content you wanted more of, “outfit ideas” was the clear winner.
An early edit of my capsule.
I’ve decided to do a modified (that’s a nice word I’m using for easy) Project 333, which I have always failed royally at in the past. I’ll be using about 33 items for the next three months, but I’m not including coats, shoes/ accessories, workout gear or any loungewear/pajamas I don’t wear out of the house. Not that we leave the house, but if we did.
Like I said, pretty easy, but definitely more challenging than having my whole closet available to me to mix, match and layer. And it was hard to narrow things down, even with all those caveats (I have a lot of sweaters). Maybe as the year progresses and I get better at my seasonal capsules, I’ll include shoes and outerwear to make things more challenging.
If you’d like to follow along, below is my list of items in my January – March 2021 Capsule Wardrobe! I’m still vacillating on a couple pieces, but I can always swap them in a few days when I fully decide. I keep having to remind myself – it’s my capsule, I can make the rules!
Tops
Mate the Label Layering Tank in Bone
Fleetwood Mac Tee (for some fun!)
ABLE Cheetah Puff Sleeve Blouse
Jenni Kayne Cashmere Tee in Black
Everlane Waffle Henley in Canvas (I honestly don’t like this shirt but I felt like I needed a basic long sleeve tee.)
AYR Striped Tee in Rose Quartz
Elizabeth Suzann Harper Tunic in Black (may swap out for my Elizabeth Suzann artist smock…still deciding)
Madewell Ex-Boyfriend Shirt in White (old, similar here. I thought about using my Tradlands white button down but that one is a tencel/linen blend and feels more suited to warmer weather).
Tradlands Wool Blend Shirt Jacket in Natural (gifted)
Tradlands Windowpane Flannel (no longer available, gifted)
LEZÉ the Label Athena Sweater in Clay
Tradlands Shelter Cardigan in Storm (gifted)
Jenni Kayne Cabin Sweater in Oatmeal
Bottoms
LEZÉ the Label Kendal Pant Clay (not available, black here)
Elizabeth Suzann Florence Pants in Black Silk Crepe
Abercrombie & Fitch Distressed Denim in Black
Madewell 10-Inch High Rise Button Fly Denim (old, similar here)
ABLE Cheetah Midi Skirt (gifted)
Aritzia Ribbed Slit Skirt (no longer available, similar here)
Dresses
Devan Gregori Stella Shift Dress in Oyster (gifted)
wool& Rowena Swing Dress in Black (gifted)
Layering Pieces
Eileen Fisher Notch Collar Jacket in Bramble
Jenni Kayne Waffle Hooded Sweater Coat in Oatmeal
To Be Determined
Pareto Crewneck (I love this but I’m not sure it can be worn in enough different ways for the purposes of this experiment. Also, gifted.)
An Eileen Fisher Duster that I ordered on Poshmark which may or may not look good when it arrives
Sezane Mia Jumper (I took this out, because I felt like I had a lot of tops…but I might add it back in).
Plus I have a few open spots (29 items accounted for right now) which gives me some freedom to see what is working well, what I might need to add get enough outfits out of certain items (such as if I really need another layering tank), etc. As I add things (or if I add things) I’ll be sure to let you know.
But, those few items didn’t seem like enough reason to not get started today! So, you can follow along on my Instagram for daily outfits, or catch my weekly roundups here.
xx
