I have a confession to make – I have used my husband’s Old Spice body wash for as long as I can remember.
Yep. For a blogger who loves all thing sustainable and clean beauty related, I have never used a clean body wash.
I guess I just never really saw the point; as long as I had my shampoo and face wash of choice, body exfoliators, washes, etc. were “meh” to me. I didn’t really view them as an important or essential part of my routine, especially because the price of beauty products can quickly add up.
Well, thanks to my friends at Nécessaire, I recently got to revamp my shower routine. They gifted me their Body Essentials Kit in Sandalwood, and I was really excited to try it after seeing so many of my friends rave about it.
If you’re anything like me, body products are a place where you skip the pricier products too, so you might be wondering if Nécessaire lives up to the hype. I thought I’d write this quick review to give you the scoop.
Nécessaire is on a mission to create personal care products that are good for our health and support our wellness – why should we only use great skincare on our faces? They obsessively research their ingredients and only use clean, effective, and high-quality, facial-grade ingredients that create results for your skin. They started their line with body care and sex care, because they believe those products “deserve to be the first thought, not an afterthought” (I feel called out right now, haha!).
Nécessaire is also a member of 1% for the Planet and uses 85% post-consumer waste boxes and 100% recyclable paper for their boxes and shippers from FSC-certified vendors.
Before I get into the individual products, let’s talk about fragrance. The sandalwood scent is divine. As someone who has long used a “men’s” bodywash (I think all body washes are for everyone, but you get the point), I’ve never been a fan of the really sweet, floral or fruity scents that are often marketed to women. This warm, spicy scent is amazing and smells really luxurious.
Additionally, the packaging is gorgeous.

I started my shower routine with The Body Exfoliator, which contains bamboo charcoal and pumice. I was expecting it to be rough and grainy like exfoliators I have used in the past, but this product applies smoothly and gently. The scent pretty much filled the shower, so it was also a nice aromatherapy session. My skin felt smooth and refreshed after.
I followed it up with The Body Wash, which is a multi-vitamin cleanser containing Vitamin B³, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Omega-6 and Omega-9. The application is silky and moisturizing, since it contains Marula, Cacay and Meadowfoam oils. I love that the body wash has the texture of an oil rather than an intense foam – I also use an oil-based face wash, and it works really well for my skin.
And lastly, I used The Body Lotion, which is fragrance-free. The fact that it is unscented is a bit of a disappointment for me, and that makes it the only item I would possibly not repurchase because I love the sandalwood scent that much. This lotion contains the same vitamins as the body wash, and applies richly. It did work well, especially on my hands! I have extremely dry hands that are often irritated, so using a product that is thicker than a normal hand cream offered some relief, and the fact that it is fragrance free means it didn’t irritate my chapped skin (so I guess that is one benefit).
Overall, I will definitely repurchase The Body Exfoliator and The Body Wash when I run out, and hey, maybe even the lotion. I felt like I had a high-end spa experience at home (important these days), and Nécessaire has definitely changed how I think about body-care – these products made a meaningful difference in how relaxing my shower was and how smooth and moisturized my skin felt after. An afterthought no more.
Have you tried Nécessaire? What did you think?
xx
